The SET-BC Vision Focus Group has been facilitating Vision Road Show Workshops across the province for the past two school years. “Reading and Writing Strategies for Students with Visual Impairments”, the most recent workshop, was created for teachers working with students with visual impairments, in the classroom environment. This informative workshop consists of a lecture, small and large group discussions, and hands on technology stations.
On March 4th, SET-BC Region 5 consultants Bruce Blashill and Scott McKay, hosted the Vision Road Show as part of a North Central Regional Pro-D day held at Prince George Secondary School. Vicky Midtdal of the Vision Interest Group joined the group from Vernon, to lead the workshop for the regional Vision Teachers.
The Vision Road Show was very beneficial for this group of teachers who, due to geographic constraints, often do not get the opportunity for this type of professional development and networking.
The participants and consultants in attendance found the visual impairment simulations particularly useful, gaining knowledge and understanding that will benefit their students with visual impairments.
