Date I joined SET-BC

September 3, 2013

About Me

I began my teaching career in 1998 after graduating from the University of Victoria. For the first 10 years of my teaching career, I concurrently worked at Gateway Society – Services for Persons with Autism. Through these combined experiences, I became very interested in working in Special Education, and sought out that career path with the Vancouver School Board in 2008. Within the VSB, I have worked as a teacher librarian, resource teacher, and life skills teacher. In 2013, I had the opportunity to join SET-BC and have enjoyed the challenge that this position represents. The highlight of my tenure at SET-BC has been working with amazing teams around the province, and seeing the powerful impact that well implemented technology can make not only for individual students, but for whole classes and school.

My Interests

My primary interests lie within the scope of my family. My wife (the best teacher I know) and my 15 and 12 year-old children have taught me so much about effective teaching and how people learn and develop. Within my current role, I love working with teachers and students – seeing them excited about using technology to make teaching and learning meaningful and accessible to all. The third UDL principle, “Multiple Means of Action and Expression” is so important in the diverse landscape of learners that we see in every classroom today.
