About this Resource

Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10: This set of three Making Notes graphic organizers can be used with Kurzweil reading and study skills tools to support research in many subject areas. The organizers include Making Notes with Keywords, Magnets and Webs. Students can add text notes, voice notes, sticky notes and drag and drop text to elaborate on their ideas. This activity supports the BC Ministry of Education Learning Outcomes for English Language Arts grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, grade 7, grade 8, grade 9, and grade 10: select and use strategies before writing and representing, including developing class-generated criteria based on analysis of the form of writing or representing; generating, selecting, developing, and organizing ideas from personal interest, prompts, models of good literature, and/or graphics. The keyword strategy was adapted from Adrienne Gear’s Nonfiction Reading Power. The magnet strategy was adapted from a workshop with Leyton Schnellert. Created by Karla Lingren, teacher in SD71.
