Arika Klassen
Speech & Language Pathologist
About Me
I am a UBC Speech-Language Pathology graduate from Winnipeg, Manitoba, with considerable experience in elementary school environments. I am following my passion of working in Augmentative and Alternative Communication early on in my career. One of my main highlights in graduate school was learning alongside a Speech-Language Pathologist at Communication Assistance for Youth and Adults (CAYA). There, I learned the power of connection and how to embrace and celebrate the success of diverse learners and communicators. I am proudly Métis and am encouraged by the fact that greater interest and voice is being given to less dominant cultures. My personal and professional mission is to give voice to the voiceless, help break their isolation, assist them to develop their skills, and allow their voices to be heard.
My Interests
I am committed to the well-being of others, both personally and through my studies. With a background in musical theatre, I enjoy singing, acting, and connecting with others. I also enjoy hiking and exploring the beautiful scenery the west coast has to offer, with my dog by my side. In the recent years, I have been exploring my Métis heritage through beading.
