Student Applications – Full Service Requests (Assistive Technology and Education Team Support)
A focused approach that ensures your students get the right kind of support.
Full Service Overview
We work with students, educators, schools, and districts in a variety of capacities. The SET-BC mandate is to support students with complex needs and that’s where our services start. We take a needs-based approach to support, and focus our services on the students with the most diverse and significant learning needs. We’re motivated by our goal to build the capacity of all B.C. school districts to support their students, to help lay their foundation, and to encourage a sense of belonging, connection, and purpose for all students in their educational settings.

How it Works
- A student with diverse and significant learning needs is referred to the School-Based Team for additional school or district supports. If it has been identified that SET-BC support is appropriate, where Assistive Technology (AT) needs exceed what the school district can provide, a Full Service Application can then be submitted.
- The student’s IEP demonstrating the need for AT and how it will be used to support student learning and goals is required.
- A school or district-based Case Manager/Key Contact may complete the Request for Service. Applications open late Spring and late Fall for the September and January intakes. It is recommended that your SET-BC District Partner (DP) is aware of this application. Please find the form below to initiate a SET-BC Request for Service.
- Teams are encouraged to have specialists complete areas of the form pertaining to their specialized area of support. Supporting reports, documentation, and/or video can be submitted to strengthen the application.
- Once the Request for Service has been submitted, it will automatically be sent to your DP for review. Districts prioritize and decide which Full Service Requests are officially submitted to SET-BC.
- Official service requests submitted by the DP are then reviewed by SET-BC. Decisions are based on student need and the district’s capacity to support. SET-BC also takes into consideration the number of applications received, readiness of the student and school team, and alignment with SET-BC’s mandate.
- Successful student applications are assigned to a SET-BC Education team who will connect the Key Contact for next steps. During the year of direct service, SET-BC will collaborate with student teams, feature match to identify potential technology trials, issue AT loans, and provide training and implementation support.

All services must be requested through a SET-BC District Partner. Currently, SET-BC does not deal directly with any schools, teachers, or parents.
SET-BC is a Provincial Outreach Program funded by the BC Ministry of Education. Our mandate is to only support BC school districts, and we therefore do not offer service outside of BC. For services in other projects or countries, we recommend consulting with your local educational services to see if your province, state, or county offer a similar service or program.
SET-BC does still work with classrooms as in the previous model. Classroom/School-Based projects are typically between 6 to 8 weeks in length, however, we do not leave equipment at the conclusion of a project. In general, SET-BC’s Classroom/School-Based solutions are about building capacity and inclusive best practices.
