Kurzweil 3000 Network Overview

FAQ

  • What is the advantage to purchasing a license for the network version as opposed to the standalone version?

With the network version, the program can be installed on the school's network server and then accessed through any station on that network.  That is, a student in a classroom could log onto the network and use the program, as could one in a computer lab, the library, a Learning Center and so on.  This gives the school more flexibility since standalone versions can only be installed and used on the one computer.

  • How many students can access the network version of the program?

This is the area that causes the most confusion – the license is for a SINGLE user only.  While the program is installed on the network server and can be used at any station on that server, only ONE student at a time can access the program.  If a second student attempts to log into it from another location, he or she will be told that the user limit has been reached.  Each network version is registered separately – you may only physically install once on the server, but the program allows you to set up multiple users IF you have purchased multiple copies.

  • Why do you have to purchase a minimum of five (5) network licenses and then multiples of five?

This is a vendor restriction – you must purchase a minimum of five copies of the network version.  If you want more than five, you have to purchase in bundles of five.  This means that once your bundle is installed on your network server, FIVE students can access it from any station on the network.  The sixth will receive the message that the user limit has been reached.

  • Can you order 10 network copies and then install them in two schools?

Yes – this is not a problem.  However, you should order a separate bundle for each network server you plan on which you plan to install the program so you get the right number of key (registration) disks.  For example, if you purchase 15 copies for three schools, order three separate bundles of five so you get three key disks.  This greatly helps the installation and registration process since you won't have to request extra key disks.

  • How quickly after ordering can I expect to receive my network versions?

We keep standalone copies of Kurzweil 3000 in our loan bank, but do not stock network versions.  These are ordered from the vendor as soon as we receive your order.  So, the speed of delivery depends on how quickly the company itself ships the software.  While standalone versions can usually be shipped within the week, network versions usually take up to 6 weeks for delivery.

  • Where can I get more information on the network version of Kurzweil 3000?

The Kurzweil website has an excellent page of downloads that give you great information on the network version including FAQ's and support documents.
