About this Resource

This is a “meant to be fun/silly” activity where intermediate students can retell the much-loved classic "The Night Before Christmas," either as it was written or with their different endings to each line of the poem. Alternate line-endings continue to point in the direction of the original story until “When what to my wondering eyes did appear” when the story-teller and the student is asked to finish the story in their own way. This English Language Arts activity involves the B.C. Ministry of Education’s "Core Competencies" of Communication and Thinking. This writing support dips into Curricular Competencies as well as Content under the Learning Standards, allowing students to explore elements of story and writing processes while they create their retelling.
