About this Resource

The “I Am Poem” uses a repetitive phrase and describes the writer/author. This type of poem is a great way for the teacher to get to know his/her students at the beginning of the school year and for the students to learn about their classmates. It supports the Ministry of Education Learning Outcomes for English Language Arts (Writing and Representing) Grade 3: – write a variety of texts in prose and verse (e.g., journals, stories, memoirs, personal letters, poems) that include: a main idea and supporting details; connected and sequenced details; correct spelling and use of grammar; a range of word choices to reflect intended meaning.
