Learning Level: Elementary School
Comprehensive Literacy for All (CLFA) is an evidence-based methodology for teaching students with significant disabilities to read and write (Karen Erickson and David Koppenhaver). It follows some basic tenets that include:
• All children can learn to read and write. Progress begins when learning opportunity begins.
• Emergent literacy is highly dependent upon the nature, frequency, accessibility, and interpretability of experiences with print.
This resource from the Special Ed Tech Center (SETC) with special thanks to Barb Lark, is an interactive tool for educators to easily find children’s books paired with a variety of literacy activities, visuals, and strategies in one place. The aim of this collection is to provide meaningful experiences with accessible print that fit into a systematic approach to teaching emergent literacy.
