On November 23rd, Dr. Caroline Musselwhite offered the province a fantastic workshop on Communication Circles. The workshop was filled with case studies and practical examples, making it easy for the audience to relate to and follow along.
The morning started with prompting the audience to write down their wishes, lies and dreams. This was used to help the audience reflect on their own practice and focus in on their goals for the workshop. Caroline then proceeded to identify some of the challenges that professionals in the education field may face on a daily basis, and ways to get around those challenges, at the same time maintaining the motivation level.
In the afternoon, Caroline talked about the “RPM-GO!” model (rehearse, practice, model and go) used to implement Communication Circles and emphasized the practicalities behind getting peers to help. This again was explained using case studies and videos from Caroline’s own experiences.
Dr. Caroline Musselwhite has presented thousands of workshops like this throughout North and South America, Australia, Europe and Africa. She is an assistive technology specialist with more than 35 years of experience working with children and adolescents with significant disabilities in a variety of settings.
