What is the Technology Access Project (TAP)?
TAP is a SET-BC pilot project that began in September 2006 and will continue into the 2008/2009 school year. TAP is established to provide assistive technology support to students who are declared by school districts in the low incidence category C in British Columbia. TAP is currently funded to provide support to category C students in public schools. TAP points will be added to each district based on a percentage of declared students in Category C.
The goal of this project is to examine the effectiveness of assistive technology to support students with moderate to profound cognitive disabilities. This project includes all students in the C category, (moderate to profound cognitive disabilities) in public schools in the province.
- Technology solutions are open to the SET-BC loan bank.
- The research component of this pilot project will continue for an additional year. However, only students currently participating in the research will be invited to take part in the second year of research. New students will not be asked to join the research.
How can I apply for TAP?
School districts will choose students to participate in TAP from the applications they receive. School teams and/or case managers should request a SET-BC screening form from their SET-BC District Partner.
