May 2008
Rebecca is a very creative and engaging 9 year old student. With the help of technology, she is meeting the challenge of her fine motor difficulties.
In the two years Rebecca has had her equipment, she has progressed from Write: OutLoud and Co:Writer to independently using Kurzweil to scan and fill in worksheets. When assigned a worksheet in class, she can scan, complete and save it at the same pace as the rest of the students. Rebecca no longer has to rely on a scribe to demonstrate her understanding of the concepts learned in class.
Rebecca says that art inspires her and with the use of her technology, has been able to express this inspiration utilizing a variety of paint and draw programs. Her charming sense of humor adds a creative dimension to her stories and art work.
Rebecca is clearly very proud of the work that she produces. She has written an Accessible Book (in PowerPoint) about her love of horseback riding, as well as taking on the challenge of designing a mascot for the Virtual Voices Village Contest.
