Kolby Wins 3rd in Canada

School - by Kolby

My school is fun
Always full of sun
All my friends are cool
Just like our school
Our work may be tricky
But a good recess treat is always sticky
The teachers are great
Even when teaching subjects we may hate
When I hear the last bell ring
I say good bye to everything

Kolby is a 10 year old student attending McLean Elementary School in Rossland. She entered her Braille poem in the grade 4, 5 and 6 category of the Creative Writing and Braille Competition 2006 and won third prize. This competition is presented by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) for students in Canada who are learning Braille.

Kolby is presently learning Braille as a secondary reading and writing medium and enjoys using her Mountbatten Pro Brailler for her writing activities. She has Alstrom Syndrome, with a dual sensory loss, a visual acuity of 20/400, and is also photophobic.
