Tristan is a bubbly, inquisitive grade one student. He was born with Arthrogryposis, a condition that affects the use and range of motion of the limbs. At school, he spends his day in a wheelchair.
Since Tristan is unable to use his hands, he participates in curriculum activities through computer technology enhancements known as assistive technology.
Tristan's eyes light up as he operates the computer. He turns around and flashes one of his huge smiles as he works on his school tasks.
Special Education Technology British Columbia (SET-BC) worked with Tristan's school team to implement a computer system with Tracker hardware and Clicker 4 software.
Tracker allows Tristan to smoothly move the cursor on the computer simply by moving his head. The hardware tracks the movement via a tiny reflective dot on Tristan's nose. Clicker 4, a specialized software program, provides the reading and writing environment on the computer.
