Adam B's Student Story
Adam is in his first year at a middle school on Vancouver Island. He has a diagnosis of autism and has used Macintosh technology from SET-BC since grade four. Last year he was upgraded to a laptop computer (still with Co:Writer) in preparation for entering middle school. Adam is able to organize his work, schedule his time, and do research projects using his computer. He accesses the Internet at home and is able to spend the extra time he needs on homework.
echnology has provided a medium for Adam to express his wonderful writing skills. It has brought down the barriers associated with handwriting and provided excellent visual support for him. Adams typing keeps improving and he will soon not require Co:Writer. His computer use is successful because he no longer has to spend an inordinate amount of time getting the text to look the way he would like it to.
Adam loves politics and often uses ideas from the Air Farce, Red Green and the Far Side in his illustrations. Last year, he returned from a field trip to Vancouver where his class were dormed at UBC. He discovered a love for snooker while in the arcade! This summer, Adam continued to improve his golf game and spent time outdoors, while looking forward to using his laptop at middle school this fall.
