Mila's Success Story

Mila is a second grader who is enthusiastic about using her SET-BC computer. Since Mila is not able to use a mouse yet, she uses two switches to control the computer for her learning activities.
Mila has been making excellent progress in working through a systematic set of engaging activities designed by Linda Burkhart entitled “Two Switches to Success”.
Mila is unable to speak, so she chooses the activity she wants to work on by picking a photograph showing that activity. The opportunity to choose preferred activities has greatly increased Mila’s motivation to work on her computer.

Mila is already using the computer skills she has learned to explore a range of early learning concepts. Mila’s support team believes that she will be able to build on some of the skills she is learning now to develop an effective communication system. With this voice, Mila will be better able to tell her stories and let us know what she is thinking.
