Grand Opening Announcement

BC Universal Design for Learning Project
Learning Object Repository
www.setbc.org/bcudl

SET-BC is pleased to announce the opening of the BCUDL- Learning Object Repository, which provides free, searchable access to UDL lesson plans and learning objects. The Learning Object Repository (LOR) will help educators find, manage, create, and share UDL-focused teaching resources. Educators in BC are invited to explore the resources and register for the BCUDL-LOR at www.setbc.org/bcudl

The 2007 – 2008 BCUDL project teams collaborated to create UDL-based lessons and resources, focusing on Language Arts grades 4-12, which can now be downloaded from the LOR. The LOR has lesson building architecture that is modeled on the Center for Applied Special Technology (www.cast.org) lesson builder.  A unique feature of the LOR download is delivery of a zipped file containing a lesson plan and all related learning object files (e.g. rubrics, writing templates, SmartBoard notebook files, PowerPoint files, graphic organizer templates).

We also encourage you to visit the Video Icon Experience UDL-based Teaching and Learning (2008) pages in the SET-BC Learning Centre at www.setbc.org, to view video clips in which the project teachers describe the impact of UDL on their teaching and students’ learning experience.

Burnaby & Multiple Videoconference Sites

We are enthused!  LATA and PITA (provincial specialists associations) and the principals of the Burnaby School District are hosting a UDL themed multi-site conference for the October 24th provincial professional development day.  It will be a wonderful opportunity to hear the Universal Design for Learning keynote presentation by Dr. David Rose, founder and chief scientist of cognition and learning at CAST, and attend UDL-focused sessions by the BC UDL Project teams and special guest speakers.

Make plans to attend in a location near you!
Come with your local PSA group, a favorite colleague, or your whole staff.

The sponsoring associations have organized videoconference links to the presentations for many communities throughout BC. Registrants for the PITA conference, on October 24 in Kelowna, and all videoconferencing sites will have the opportunity to hear Dr. Rose via videoconference. Contact LATA at http://bctf.ca/lata/conference/events.htm to register, or to find more information about your nearest videoconference site.
