SET-BC Develops Accessible Books for the iPad
September 2011
Over the summer, in addition to expanding our usual PowerPoint-based Accessible Books collection, SET-BC has also been building a new area of the collection - Accessible Books for the iPad
These new iPad books are in Pictello format. Pictello is AssistiveWare’s talking story app that allows iPad users to easily combine images and narration in a slideshow format.
Students can use this app, which costs $14.99US, to create their own unique and personal stories. You will also need this app if you wish to access our newly made books.
To date, we have 22 Pictello books in the collection. These new books have been added to the Accessible Books Catalogue. To see a list of the
iPad accessible books currently available in the catalogue, type in "Pictello" under the Mac Applications category.
As with the rest of our books in the collection, when you request a Pictello title from us, you will receive a CD containing the appropriate file.
The process of creating an accessible book in Pictello is made easy by the app’s step-by-step Wizard.
We will soon be posting tutorials on how to use the Wizard to create talking stories as well as how to transfer a Pictello file from the Accessible Books CD to your student’s iPad. These will be available from the Accessible Books area of our website.
