CanAssist to the Rescue: An Adapted Toy Story
November 2011
CanAssist is an organization based out of the University of Victoria that is dedicated to helping people with disabilities. CanAssist has helped many SET-BC students by making custom adaptations for cameras, video cameras and iPods.
Most recently, SET-BC required custom adaptations to switch activated toys. CanAssist once again fulfilled our request and they quickly made these adaptations in their usual high quality and timely manner.
The switch activated toys sent to CanAssist were Woody (from Toy Story) and a dinosaur. The adaptations that were made allow for a student using a switch to cycle through and hear the messages or sound effects.
If you have a student that would like to play with Woody and the dinosaur, they are traveling with Timmy Technology. You can book this cheerful threesome for a visit. Information on how to book Timmy can be found on his webpage.
SET-BC is fortunate to be able to partner with such a great organization like CanAssist. We are fortunate that we can call on them to fabricate high quality custom adaptations that allow students with disabilities to participate more fully in educational and recreational settings.
