The Provincial Integration Support Program (PISP) website has a large number of excellent resources for those supporting students with complex needs.  Supporting students with complex needs in the classroom can be very challenging and the resources that PISP has developed can help teams all along the process from assessment to evaluation.  Their website has a large number of viewable and downloadable resources including Learning Modules, Inservice and Training packages, and Participation Kits.

The Learning Modules available include Assessment, Developing IEPs, Communication and Social Strategies, Program Planning, Reporting Progress and Transitions.  Each module contains information or content as well as suggested activities.

The Inservice and Training packages include a variety of packages which have been designed to be delivered by district and school-based staff interested in facilitating a workshop on various aspects of student integration.

The Dog Biscuit Participation Kit

The site also describes a large number of Participation Kits which can be assembled to increase both the level of classroom participation and the quality of that participation.  This kit, the Dog Biscuit Participation Kit has information and activity ideas for creating a kit for a switch using student who would be involved with creating dog biscuits using a variety of low tech tools.

For those new to supporting students with complex needs, there is an excellent video entitled “Integration – Meeting the Challenge” on thier Videos page.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the www.pisp.ca  recently, take a moment to check out all the resources they have available.  For more information on the Provincial Integration Support Program, contact the the PISP consultant in your area.
