New AAC Technologies from DynaVox
February 2007

Erin O’Halloran from DynaVox Technologies introduced the new DynaVox V and Vmax XP-based speech-generating devices to a group of augmentative communication specialists and assistive technology consultants at SET-BC in February. Erin demonstrated the features of the new InterAACT language framework which provides ready-made vocabularies for emergent, situational and creative communicators and also applies age-appropriate strategies and vocabulary. Visual scene displays were explored at many different communication levels. She also showed how Mayer-Johnson’s Boardmaker and Speaking Dynamically Pro software, which are familiar environments for many SET-BC teams, are included on each device. Following the demonstration, everyone had a chance to explore the new devices and software and discuss how these new technologies might meet the needs of AAC users in BC.
