Region 2 hosts Intellitalk II Workshop

Region 2, the Lower Mainland team, hosts assistive technology training workshops throughout the year at the SET-BC Provincial Centre.

Intellitalk II allows children to word process easily using visual cues and auditory prompts. Students can choose from a variety of voices to hear their own words read back to them. Whether complemented by the Intellikeys keyboard or on its own, Intellitalk II gives students access to curriculum activities through customized on-screen palettes and tool bars that utilize graphics and sound.

With Spring Break in sight, SET-BC's Region 2 hosted the third Intellitalk II workshop of the year. 15 attendees enjoyed a full day workshop that included exploration of the software, hands-on practice making activities, and networking with other school users. "Making Change the Canadian Way", an activity developed by Lorna Klashiky of Bridges, is a way of using Canadian content within an American program. Intellitalk II is shipped with curriculum activities that support an American school system, but participants at the workshop learned how easy it is to adapt ready made activities for their own Canadian curriculum needs.

For students who struggle with writing, Intellitalk II can open the door to their creativity. Whether making a journal entry, giving an oral report using the Intellitalk voices, or submitting poetry to the school newspaper, their self esteem and writing skills can be developed.
