Gail shared her passion for language and communication development as she related strategies and experiences pertaining to the assessment and implementation of Minspeak. Gail's presentation was rich in case study examples drawn from years of practical therapy experience working with Augmentative / Alternative Communication (AAC) users. On day one, Gail interspersed lecture with opportunites for hands-on activities using Minspeak therapy materials. Language therapy and classroom implementation strategies that supported AAC implementation were shared. On day two, Gail presented ideas, experiences, and strategies for assessment of individuals addressing the question, "Is Minspeak Appropriate for Cognitively-Challenged Individuals?" An on-site audience in Vancouver and three videoconference audiences in Nanaimo, Terrace, and Vernon enjoyed a fruitful day of lecture, videotaped case study experiences, and guided group discussions. BC therapists, teachers, and students benefitted as Gail recounted her observations and experiences in the field of AAC. Gail's passion for her work in advocating for and supporting individuals who use AAC was evident throughout the two days of lively, thought-provoking presentations. |
