Manon Dubé Visits Dawson Creek
Optelec representative, Manon Dubé, came to Dawson Creek to support three blind students with Braille Note technology. She was most disappointed to find that this was not the North Pole! Yes, it is still another 1400 km. to get to Whitehorse. |

We rolled out the white carpet, but held the temperature as warm as we
could, it was only -4! Balmy for January in Dawson! Manon spoke to two
groups of students. The first were grade 7's at Central Middle School,
who asked many excellent questions. One question was about the hightened
sense that blind people have. Manon explained that it was just that
blind people used the senses that they had more sensitively. The second
group was a K-2 class at McLeod Elementary school. In between speeches, Manon worked with Jocelyn and Jessica on their Braille Notes. Manon was most impressed with the level of knowledge of the two students - much of which they had learned by themselves. She left after showing them how to set up for email. Manon also introduced Chenyl to the Braille Note and went through some editing commands. Chenyl, who is in Grade 1, thinks she needs her own Braille Note today. It was a very successful day that reassured the staff and students, that they are racing along the cutting edge of technology! |
