Vision Technologies: Connecting It All (2001)

SET-BC presented a pre-conference workshop on vision technologies, at ODYSSEY 2001 : NEW FRONTIERS, the Canadian Vision Teachers' Fourth Biennial Conference held at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, May 31 - June 03, 2001

SET-BC consultants, technicians, and BC Vision teachers took on the challenging task of providing an overview of current vision technologies and how they can work together to provide Braille-using students with an effective and independent means of participating in classroom activities.

Vision technology information from accessing information and resources to providing print or Braille materials was presented. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to participate in hands-on / demonstration sessions that provided information on the following topics:
  • Scanning and Optical Character Recognition
  • Importing and Exporting Files
  • Braille Translation
  • Information Resources
SET-BC consultants developed a resource book that documented the content of each session. This resource was well received by all! A copy of Vision Technologies: Connecting It All (2001), is available for download.

A final note: During the Odyssey conference, SET-BC was highlighted as a model for provinces to emulate in the provision of technology, services, and training for students with visual impairments.
