Dancing and Braille Literacy, too!
The beginners tap dancing lesson was one of many fun activities at this summer's Braille Literacy Camp on Bowen Island. "Tap shoes" were improvised by putting socks over shoes and then glueing on pennies! Fifteen campers ranging in age from eight to twelve participated in a jam-packed week of recreational, leisure and reading and writing activities. The campers used their Mountbatten Braillers and Braille Lites to keep a journal and write some great stories about their adventures to share with others. An awesome time was had by all! |

"Well, we've been to some camps in our time, but that was unbelievable!"
On the Labor Day long weekend, a camp was held in Squamish, for B.C. students who use highly specialized technology in order to speak. @Virtual Voices was so impressive, it surprised even those who knew it was going to be a success. The collaboration of staff from the BC Lions Society, Sunny Hill Health Centre, BC school districts, Aroga, and SET-BC was a very rewarding partnership. Our campers had the opportunity to make new friends, have some fun and learn more about communication. A follow-up field trip is in the works, and we look forward to possibly repeating this rewarding event. Watch our website for future developments! |
