Kurzweil Jeopardy

After a long day of work, it was time to take a break and
play Kurzweil Jeopardy

Students from around the lower mainland gathered at the SET-BC Provincial Centre for two days of Kurzweil Kamp.  Two Kamps were held on April 28th/29th and May 5th/6th and involved up to 15 students and their adult helpers.  The two days were busy and the energy level was high as the students explored many aspects of the Kurzweil 3000 program and how they can use it to support their reading and writing in the classroom.

Students worked in pairs on laptops with scanners while their adult helpers looked on and helped out as needed.  Learning activities focused on using the program for written output and to help with reading comprehension and test or worksheet completion tasks.  Some fun activities were built into the two days including the taping of the students presenting their own demonstrations of how to use a specific aspect of the program.

At the end of the second day, the students took on the adult helpers in a rousing round of Kurzweil Jeopardy – the students demonstrating their knowledge and coming out ahead of the adults.  Reports on the various activities, student comments as well as the videotaped demonstrations can be found on the Kurzweil Kamp blog – check it out at http://kurzweil.edublogs.org.

Students and adults alike reported that the days were very valuable and that everyone learned a great deal, not only from the instruction, but from working together to problem solve.  A third Kamp is scheduled for June 11th and 12th in Chilliwack.  For more information on the Kurzweil 3000 Kamps for students, contact krandle@setbc.org.
